Marvel Comics has confirmed that there are no upcoming plans to release Miracleman: The Dark Age, the next installment of Neil Gaiman’s Miracleman series. In a statement to the New York Times, Marvel revealed it has "no new books forthcoming" from Gaiman. This marks a shift from their previous efforts to republish and continue his Miracleman saga, which had been tied up in legal issues for decades.
Gaiman, known for his work on Marvel series like Eternals and 1602, had originally written Miracleman for Eclipse Comics in the 1990s. Marvel had previously published The Golden Age, a continuation of Gaiman's story, and The Silver Age, which was partially completed before artist Mark Buckingham decided to redraw the entire arc. However, the long-awaited The Dark Age seems unlikely to follow suit, as Marvel now has no plans to release it.
In a recent Substack newsletter, Marvel's Senior Vice President, Tom Brevoort, addressed the status of The Dark Age. Responding to an inquiry from Bleeding Cool, Brevoort confirmed that the project is currently inactive, and if anything were to change, Marvel would announce it.
Reports suggest that artist Mark Buckingham stopped working on The Dark Age last summer, requesting to be reassigned. Buckingham has since been working on Amazing Spider-Man instead. Meanwhile, media reports have surfaced alleging abuse by Gaiman, which he has denied. These allegations, alongside the lack of progress on various projects, appear to have affected Gaiman’s career trajectory.
