NA panel seeks briefing on 'Uraan Pakistan'
The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic Affairs has formally demanded a detailed briefing on Uraan Pakistan.
In a meeting held on Monday under the chairmanship of Atif Khan, lawmakers were also apprised of major initiatives, including a $75 million housing project to construct 35,100 homes for flood victims in Balochistan.
To date, $15.60 million has been disbursed, and the construction is slated for completion within two years.
Committee member Bilal Azhar Kayani highlighted that, as per the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), 46 projects are currently in progress through global collaboration, warranting detailed briefings from EAD.
Officials also outlined the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project – signed with the World Bank on July 3 2023 – which aims to rehabilitate flood-affected areas in Balochistan by 31 December 2027.
The World Bank (WB) has committed $400 million for this project, with $213 million provided by the executing agency and $173 million by the Balochistan government; $38.90 million has already been released, and work is underway on 10 different project proposals (PC-1s).
