Educators protest removal of tax exemptions
The Joint Education Action Committee (JEAC), representing federal educational institutions, has announced a protest on Tuesday (today) against the removal of tax exemptions on teachers' and researchers' salaries, the non-provision of educational allowances, and the proposed Education Authority plan.
The demonstration will begin at 10am in front of the National Press Club. It will be led by JEAC Chairman Dr Fazal Mola, Vice Chairman Malik Amir Khan, and other prominent teacher leaders.
According to JEAC, nearly 14,000 teaching and non-teaching staff from federal educational institutions will participate in the protest.
The key demands include the reinstatement of the 25pc tax rebate for teachers and researchers, which was recently withdrawn, and the immediate provision of educational allowances.
In a statement, JEAC Chairman Dr Fazal Mola urged all teaching and non-teaching staff to participate in full force.
He blamed government policies for pushing educators to the streets, calling them "anti-education" measures.
"The withdrawal of the 25pc tax rebate is a direct financial blow to the very individuals who dedicate their lives to shaping the future of this nation. We demand its immediate reinstatement," Dr Fazal Mola stated.
He further emphasised that the protest would remain peaceful but would continue until the demands are met.
