Police arrest another accused in girl's murder

Police have already submitted the samples obtained after the postmortem of the victim.

Police have arrested another accused involved in the sexual assault and murder of a 21-year-old orphaned girl within the limits of Jatli police station Rawalpindi.

The accused, Wajahat, often parked his car at the house where the deceased was killed, said the police, adding that he will be produced in the court for remand on Tuesday (today).

On Monday, the police also obtained a four-day remand from the court for already arrested four accused, including two women. After obtaining the remand of the third accused, three male accused will be shifted to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency, Lahore for DNA testing.

Police have already submitted the samples obtained after the postmortem of the victim to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency. Police sources said that mobile phones will also be sent to the Forensic Science Agency if any suspicious content is found.

According to the police, the girl staying at her sister's house was allegedly sexually assaulted and later killed by her brother-in-law and another individual. The family buried her without reporting her death to allegedly conceal the crime. The police said the post-mortem confirmed that the girl was eight months pregnant and had suffered abuse.

The police produced the accused Gulfraz alias Gullu (brother-in-law of the deceased), Muhammad Amin (neighbour), Gulzar Begum (maternal Aunty of the girl and mother of the deceased's brother-in-law) and Anila Bibi (brother-in-law's sister) in the Gujar Khan court the other day. Police officials said that an investigation is underway to recover the stick used to torture the victim and the bottle or utensil in which the girl was given poison.
