Anti-corruption oath an eyewash: PPP

PESHAWAR:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Provincial President, Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha, has criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government's decision to administer an anti-corruption oath to government employees, calling it a futile and deceptive move.

In a press statement issued on Monday, Bacha described the initiative as a ridiculous and failed attempt to mislead the public, asserting that it only highlights the alarming level of corruption in the province. He stated that if the government were truly committed to eradicating corruption, it should first hold its own ministers, advisors, and bureaucrats accountable. However, he argued, a government deeply involved in corruption itself can never ensure real accountability.

Bacha further claimed that the people of KP are well aware of how provincial resources have been looted over the years.

"From the BRT project to the Billion Tree Tsunami, every major initiative of the PTI government has been marred by corruption, yet no action has been taken," he said.

Instead of taking meaningful steps, he added, the government has consistently shielded corrupt individuals and misused institutions like the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for its own political interests.

He stressed that preventing corruption among government employees requires strict laws and effective oversight, not just symbolic oaths.

"If the government is serious about fighting corruption, it must begin accountability from the top and ensure that those responsible for large-scale corruption face justice," he asserted.

Bacha vowed that the PPP would continue its struggle against corruption at all levels and take every necessary step to protect the rights of the people. He assured that the people of KP would no longer be deceived and would hold the corrupt government accountable for its actions.
