Landlord brutally tortures theft suspect
An influential person from the Malik community in New Saeedabad allegedly subjected a young boy from the Machhi community to severe torture over suspected theft, before handing him over to the police.
A landlord in New Saeedabad has taken the law into his own hands, setting up a makeshift court. A disturbing video of the boy being tortured, with electric wires and sticks, went viral on social media. Several hours after the video surfaced, the DIG and SSP took notice of the incident.
The victim, a fruit seller, allegedly suffered a broken arm during the torture, according to reports. A disturbing video shows him being tied to a tree and subjected to further abuse. Locals claim that the young man was initially accused of stealing a motor and an air conditioner exterior, and was subsequently tied to a tree. He was then taken to the bungalow of a local influential person, where he was tortured before being handed over to the police.
SHO Shah Zaman Chandio assured that the matter is being investigated and the perpetrators will be arrested. He avoided mentioning the landlord's name when speaking to the Express Tribune. Instead, he abruptly ends the call by mentioning Tawfiq Malik, the owner of the fridge shop and partner of the influential person.
DIG Hyderabad took notice of the incident and ordered SSP Matiari to take action against the accused. SSP Faisal Basheer issued an order to SHO New Saeedabad to register a case against the accused and arrest him.
On the other hand, a complaint of violence against the youth on charges of alleged theft was filed by the victim's maternal uncle Ali Gohar. The case was registered against eight individuals, including five named accused; Tawfiq Malik, Owais Samu, Yaseen, Bahadur Kuri, and Akbar Rind. However, as of the latest reports, no arrests have been made.
