Cops accused of extorting cash

The District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ali took notice of the incident.

DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A case of alleged police misconduct has emerged in the Gadai area, where police officers reportedly seized business cash from a petrol pump cashier during a routine search.

The District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ali took notice of the incident, leading to an inquiry that exposed a deeper fraud involving both police personnel and the cashier himself.

Ejaz Leghari, the owner of a private petrol pump, had entrusted his cashier, Sher Khan, with Rs2 million for a business transaction. However, as Sher Khan reached Gadai Chowngi on Sakhi Sarwar Road, he was stopped by police officers in uniform for a search under the pretext of recovering illegal weapons.

Upon discovering the large sum of cash, the officers allegedly took him to the CIA staff, threatened him with dire consequences and confiscated the money before releasing him.

DPO Syed Ali instructed SHO Ali Imran to arrest the police personnel involved and ordered DSP City Irfan Akbar to conduct a thorough investigation.

Following the inquiry, a case was registered under Section 382 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and three police officers were taken into custody.

However, the investigation uncovered a surprising twist. Sher Khan had, in fact, misappropriated Rs1.7 million for himself, while Rs300,000 was taken by the police officers.
