A Northeast Philadelphia plane crash killed six, including a child who had life-saving treatment in the U.S. before returning home.
The Learjet 55 air ambulance, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, had just taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport when it crashed near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, igniting a massive fire. The victims included the child, her mother, the pilot, co-pilot, a doctor, and a paramedic.
Shriners Children’s Philadelphia confirmed that the child had been under their care. "Shriners Children’s is heartbroken to confirm that one of our pediatric patients and the child’s mother were aboard the Jet Rescue Air Ambulance that crashed in Philadelphia," the hospital stated.
Drone and doorbell footage captured the fiery aftermath, showing homes, businesses, and vehicles engulfed in flames as thick smoke filled the sky. Emergency responders rushed to the scene as officials declared a "major incident."
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro assured residents that all necessary resources were being deployed.
This disaster follows another recent aviation tragedy when a passenger jet and a military helicopter collided near Washington’s Reagan National Airport, killing 67 people.
