K-P launches skill development programme for prisoners
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a skill development programme for prisoners, aimed at equipping them with practical skills to improve their post-release prospects, Express News reported.
The initiative, launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, is being implemented across the region’s jails.
K-P CM spokesperson Faraz Mughal stated that the programme includes training in a variety of crafts, including sewing, chapli (traditional footwear) making, and other handcrafts. "Both male and female prisoners are being taught these skills equally," he added.
He further noted that prisoners produce various items in jail, which are sold to generate income. The proceeds are then deposited into the prisoners' digital accounts.
The scheme aims to provide prisoners with the skills needed to reintegrate into society and create financial independence.
