RAWALPINDI:

In light of upcoming festive events this month, the Rawalpindi district administration has banned fireworks and aerial firing across the district.

Additionally, security has been tightened at all recreational parks due to Valentine's Day.

Shab-e-Barat will be observed on February 13, followed by Valentine's Day on February 14.

Religious organisations have also called for strict security measures in parks to prevent what they term "obscenities" associated with Valentine's Day.

Meanwhile, markets across Rawalpindi are gearing up for the occasion, with gift shops, toy stores and flower markets adorned with red decorations. The sale of artificial and fresh red flowers has surged in both wholesale and retail markets, while stores have started displaying red teddy bears, handkerchiefs, cushions, and various other Valentine-themed gifts.

Flower market vendors are expecting a sharp rise in demand for red roses and bouquets from February 10, with peak sales expected between February 10-14.

Many shopkeepers have already secured bulk supplies to meet the anticipated demand.

"Valentine's Day has become a good event for us in terms of flower sales," said vendor Mehmood Akhtar.

On the other hand, religious groups have demanded a complete ban on Valentine's Day celebrations. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema has enforced Section 144 in the district, prohibiting aerial firing, fireworks, and the sale of Chinese crackers on Shab-e-Barat.

The city police officer has directed all station house officers (SHOs) to crack down on the sale and supply of firecrackers, fireworks, and ammunition ahead of the event.
