Schools set to embrace new subject groups
The new academic year, starting April 1, 2025, will see the introduction of six subject groups for students enrolling in the ninth grade, including those promoted from the eighth grade.
All public and private schools have been provided with details of these groups, each comprising eight subjects with 100 marks allocated per subject.
According to officials, the newly introduced groups include matric natural sciences, matric computer science, matric health sciences, matric agriculture, matric fashion designing, and matric arts.
The curriculum details for each group have been shared, with subjects varying according to specialisation.
The arts group includes subjects like English, Urdu, Islamic Studies, Translation of the Quran, math, general science, education and sociology. The computer science group features mathematics, chemistry, physics, and computer science, while the health sciences group includes specialised subjects like biology tech and health science.
Textbooks for all groups have been printed and dispatched to the market. Additionally, Punjab's nine educational boards have been instructed to prepare examination papers for these subjects for March 2026. Special training sessions for teachers of these subjects are set to begin next month
