Voice of He-Man John Erwin dies at 88
John Erwin, the voice behind iconic characters such as He-Man and Morris the Cat, passed away at the age of 88 from natural causes at his home in Camarillo, California.
Born on December 5, 1936, Erwin’s career spanned decades, beginning with a recurring role on the western 'Rawhide' alongside Clint Eastwood. He later transitioned to voice acting, starting with the character Reggie Mantle in the 1968 animated series 'The Archies'. His voice work for Reggie extended to various Archie series, including 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch', as well as 'Groovie Goolies' and 'The Flintstones' spinoffs.
Erwin’s most notable role came in 1983 when he voiced He-Man in 'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe'. He continued the role in the spinoff series 'She-Ra: Princess of Power' from 1985 to 1987. In addition to his animation work, Erwin famously voiced Morris the Cat in 9 Lives commercials, bringing a sardonic wit to the character.
Erwin’s career also included narrating TV shows like 'Here’s Lucy' and 'Malcolm & Eddie', and voicing characters in films like 'Back to the Future Part II'. His final voice role came in 2005 on 'Family Guy'. He is survived by his children and grandchildren.
