Superintendent who fled with student fees attempts suicide in Karachi
In a dramatic turn of events, the superintendent of a government college in Karachi, who had absconded with student fees, attempted suicide by consuming a toxic substance out of fear of arrest.
According to police sources, the case revolves around Government College for Women, Nazimabad, where the superintendent, identified as Nafees, allegedly fled with over Rs 910,000 in examination fees. In response, law enforcement authorities launched an operation to apprehend him and raided his residence.
Officials from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) at the Rizvia police station, stated that, fearing imminent arrest, the suspect ingested a poisonous substance. He was immediately shifted to ‘Abbasi Shaheed Hospital’, where doctors managed to cleanse his stomach. As per hospital reports, his condition is now stable and out of danger.
Police authorities have confirmed that once discharged from the hospital, Nafees will be interrogated to recover the misappropriated funds.
Earlier, Nafees, the superintendent of the Government College for Women, Nazimabad, allegedly escaped with huge amount of money that he had collected as fees from the students.
The college principal, Prof. Shehla Bashir reported the matter to the Rizvia police who subsequently registered a case against the absconding superintendent.
The principal informed the police that three days ago, college staff approached her and informed that students were visiting administration office to collect their admit cards which were supposed to be issued by the superintendent, but they did not get their admit cards.
Later, "I came to know that Nafees dishonestly collected cash amounting to Rs910,200 from around 81 students as examination fees," Prof Shehla mentioned, adding, Nafees also collected cash directly from the female students for other works instead of directing the students to deposit the same in the bank.
