Govt studies revival of Iran-Turkey-Europe road link
Karachi: Pakistan has initiated discussions with Iran to establish a tourism route, as the country aims to gain access to a land route connecting Turkey and Europe through Iran, ultimately increasing tourism, Sindh Minister for Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said.
This development was shared by the minister during the three-day event of the Pakistan Travel Mart at the Karachi Expo Centre, where he interacted with the media on Friday.
The minister further informed that a committee has been established to preserve historical buildings, and action is being taken based on their report. Foreign investors are now showing keen interest here, he said.
The Pakistan Travel Mart exhibition is a significant event, featuring around 250 stalls, with delegations from 16 countries participating.
Notably, the Saudi Group has the largest presence at the show which boasts a diverse range of stalls from local and foreign airlines, hotels, travel agencies, tourism boards, and related sectors.
Companies from various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Ethiopia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Maldives, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Qatar, United Kingdom, and Singapore, have set up their stalls. The exhibition is a joint effort between the Trade Development Authority and the Saudi Group.
Meanwhile, travel app Wego.com has announced its plans to expand its operations and Online Travel Agency (OTA) platform in Pakistan.
According to Wego, Saudi Arabia remains the most popular destination for Pakistani travellers, with a remarkable year-on-year growth of over 100%.
