Fazl criticises Zardari for signing PECA bill

However, later on, it transpired that the president had given assent to Peca Amendments Bill.

ISLAMABAD:

Reacting on President's assent to Peca Act, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said it is not right to be double-faced.

Talking to journalists in Dena, the JUI-F chief said he had discussed Peca Act with the president who assured him that the recommendations on the act would be accepted. However, later on, it transpired that the president had given assent to Peca Amendments Bill.

Expressing dismay over the president's action, he said one should not be double-faced. The JUI-F chief said Peca Act is a kind of law which directly hits the profession of journalism. He advised the government to take into account the reservations of the journalists and hold consultations with them.

He said there are certain things which are likely to be misused. When we talked about a Shariah law, the question was raised that it could be misused. "Why can the whims of the establishment be deferred if the law of Allah can be deferred,?" Fazl asked.

"Our stance is clear that the elections were rigged across the country," said the JUI-F chief, adding the rigging was also committed in K-P and the government was formed on the basis of manipulated results.

Fazl said his party wants snap elections in the entire country. The Constitution and parliament are not tools to be molded as per the establishment's wish.
