New Toshakhana records name Qazi Faez Isa, Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto among recipients
The cabinet division has released the Toshakhana records from March, 2023, to December 31, 2024, revealing a list of prominent figures who received gifts during this period, local media reported on Wednesday.
Among the individuals listed are Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Arif Alvi, former CJP Qazi Faez Isa, and several other key political and government personalities.
According to the notification issued, numerous officials, including former interim prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Miftah Ismail, Rana Sanaullah, Aftab Tarar, Shazin Bugti, and Jam Kamal also received gifts.
Other individuals listed in the notification include PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, his sister Asifa Bhutto, Senator Talha Mahmood, seasoned diplomat Tariq Fatemi, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, and FBR Chairman Rashid Langrial, among others.
Additionally, military and security personnel such as Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, President Zardari’s Military Secretary Brigadier Shahryar Munir Hafeez, PM’s Military Secretary Major General Tajdid Mumtaz, PM’s Chief Security Officer Mohammad Imran, and former foreign secretary Amina Baloch were also among those receiving gifts.
The notification also included names of former interim ministers like Shamshad Akhtar (Finance), Jalil Abbas Jilani (Foreign Affairs), Dr Umar Saif (IT), Tajat Gohar Ejaz (Trade), and Muhammad Ali (Energy) who were gifted various items during their tenure.
The gifts presented included books, decorative pieces, souvenirs, watches, teapots, carpets, shawls, daggers, prayer mats, pens, cups, perfumes, and handkerchiefs, among others.
In the past one and a half years, most recipients have deposited their gifts in the Toshakhana, and the Cabinet Division is currently in the process of estimating the value of the various gifts received.
It is important to note that in March 2023, the Shehbaz government introduced a new system for managing gifts. Under the new rules, recipients are allowed to keep gifts worth up to $300, while any gift exceeding this value will become the property of the Toshakhana.
