Wynne Evans splits from girlfriend after X-rated comment, exits Strictly live tour
Wynne Evans has reportedly ended his relationship with his girlfriend after she felt "humiliated" by his recent scandal and decided to withdraw from the Strictly Come Dancing live tour.
The 53-year-old opera singer addressed the situation with a statement on Tuesday, confirming that he had reached an agreement with the BBC to “take some time out” from his radio show and the *Strictly* live tour “to prioritise my wellbeing.”
This statement followed uncertainty over his participation in the tour after *The Mail on Sunday* published footage of him making an offensive sexual remark about *It Takes Two* presenter Janette Manrara during a promotional event for the tour.
Reports now suggest that Wynne has also parted ways with his girlfriend, Liz Brookes, a 50-year-old events manager.
The couple began dating in the spring of last year after his 16-year marriage ended.
Despite his challenges on *Strictly*, Liz stood by him throughout the competition, frequently seen in the audience supporting him and sharing a heartfelt post expressing how "proud" she was of him.
However, according to *The Sun*, she was deeply embarrassed by his behavior during the show last year, particularly his controversial "hand wandering" moment with dance partner Katya Jones.
A TV insider claimed that when news of his latest explicit comment surfaced, she felt "relieved" that they had already gone their separate ways.
They told the publication: "Although she loyally stood by him in public, Liz was humiliated by what happened when he was on *Strictly*. She always knew he was a bit old school, and actually liked the fact he seemed rough round the edges. She just assumed it was all part of his charm.
"It was very difficult for Liz, but she continued to back him throughout the rest of the contest, often being seen in the audience enthusiastically applauding him right up to him being knocked out in Blackpool week in November.
"It's not clear exactly when they split, but friends say that when his latest lewd gaffe was revealed at the *Strictly Live Tour* launch she was relieved they were no longer together."
The news follows Wynne’s confirmation that he would no longer be taking part in the *Strictly* live tour. The Welsh performer, best known for his role as a portly Italian opera singer in *Go Compare* insurance ads, issued an apology while announcing his decision to step back.
He said: "I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the *Strictly Live Tour*, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing."
