RAWALPINDI:

Residents of Rawalpindi city and Cantonment areas are grappling with poor road conditions caused by a lack of maintenance after road cutting for underground utilities, such as water supply, gas and sewerage lines.

The construction work leaves behind potholes and dust, severely affecting traffic flow and making daily commutes a nightmare for locals.

Key roads in areas like Dhoke Banaras, Dhoke Choudhrian, Westridge-III and People's Colony in Cantt, as well as Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, and Mohanpura in the city, have been left in disrepair.

Residents complain about delays in maintenance, even after the completion of underground network installations.

Muhammad Ajmal, Shabbir Ahmed, and Malik Siddique, citizens, criticised the prolonged delay, asking why repairs were not carried out immediately after the completion of utility work.

RMC officer Rafaqat Gondal explained that delays are often due to waiting for natural ground to settle after backfilling.

RCB spokesperson Rashid Saqib noted that while the board ensures maintenance in its jurisdiction, responsibility for projects under Punjab Local Government and Public Health Engineering Department lies with those respective agencies.
