Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Fahd passes away, PM Shehbaz shares condolences

The late prince served as the fovernor of the eastern province of Al-Sharqiyyah and was the son of the late King Fahd.

The Saudi royal court announced on Tuesday the passing of Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, marking the end of a significant chapter in the Saudi royal family.

The late prince was a prominent figure, serving as the former governor of the eastern province of Al-Sharqiyyah and the son of the late King Fahd.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep sorrow over the prince's death, offering heartfelt condolences in a social media post on X.

He acknowledged Prince Mohammed's remarkable contributions to Saudi Arabia, noting that his legacy of dedicated public service would always be remembered.

"Deeply grieved to learn of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, former Governor of the Eastern Province and son of the late King Fahd," the PM wrote.

He extended his condolences to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Saudi royal family, and the people of Saudi Arabia on behalf of the people of Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz further prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and for strength to be granted to his family during this challenging time.

Born in 1950, Prince Mohammed was the second son of the late King Fahd. He earned a degree in economics and political science from California State University, Santa Barbara.

Early in his career, he worked in the private sector before transitioning to public service, where he was appointed assistant deputy minister of interior.

In 1985, Prince Mohammed was appointed governor of the Eastern Province, a position he held for decades. His leadership played a crucial role in transforming the region, fostering industrial growth, improving infrastructure, and advancing healthcare services.

Under his governance, the region experienced significant development, especially during Saudi Arabia's economic boom.

Prince Mohammed was also known for his social initiatives, including championing youth development and women's empowerment.

His contributions extended beyond governance; he established the Mohammed bin Fahd Foundation, which focused on community development projects recognized for their effectiveness both regionally and internationally.

His humanitarian efforts earned him the Dubai-United Nations International Prize for Best Practices to Improve Living Conditions in 2002.

Plans are set for the prince’s funeral to take place on Wednesday after the afternoon prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
