Cold winds return to Karachi, temperature drops below 10°C

Karachi is experiencing a renewed cold wave as icy winds sweep across the city on Sunday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the minimum temperature recorded was 9.8°C, with visibility reduced to 3 kilometres due to light fog in the morning, Express News reported.

The PMD forecasts cold and dry conditions for the next 24 hours, with daytime temperatures expected to peak at 28°C and nighttime temperatures dropping to as low as 9°C.

Winds are predicted to blow at speeds ranging from 5 to 20 kilometres per hour from varying directions, contributing to the intensified chill.

The cold spell comes as residents of Karachi brace for extended chilly nights and cooler days.

The drop in temperature follows a series of fluctuating weather patterns in the city, making this one of the coldest periods of the season so far.

Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions against the cold, particularly during early mornings and late evenings when the chill is at its peak.

Few days ago, Karachi experienced noticeable drop in temperature following the arrival of cold winds from Balochistan.

On Thursday morning, Karachi's minimum temperature was recorded at 10.9°C, marking a 3.6°C decrease compared to the previous day.

The city is under the influence of a western weather system, causing frigid winds to sweep across the region.
