Punjab records 57% increase in urea sale
A review report has confirmed a record increase in the purchase of fertilisers and pesticides in Punjab with the Chief Minister Kisan Card.
According to the report, the sale of 991,000 tonnes of urea showed a 57.9 per cent increase. "The increase in urea sales was due to the Punjab government's Kisan Card scheme," it added.
The sale of other organic fertilisers also increased by 42.9%, including 50.7% increase in the use of nitrogen, 9.3% in phosphate and 0.8% in potash."
The report noted that the fertiliser prices had decreased.
According to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, 400,000 farmers who have obtained Kisan Cards have purchased agricultural inputs worth Rs35 billion so far.
She said 750,000 farmers in Punjab would receive the cards, while they had been issued to 530,000 farmers so far."
She added, "This is the biggest programme in the history of Punjab for the development of agriculture and the socio-economic uplift of farmers."
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, "Satellite monitoring of wheat sowing in Punjab has also started." She said wheat cultivation on 16.1 million acres of land would be verified through satellite.
"Satellite images will be compared with the images of wheat crop when it is ready to harvest," she added.
