Zendaya fans expressed outrage after the actress was excluded from the Oscars competition for her performance in Challengers, with one fan declaring that she had been "robbed" of a nomination.
The 28-year-old portrayed tennis player Tashi Duncan in the sports drama and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role, but her name was missing from the list of Oscar nominees announced on Thursday morning.
It wasn’t just Zendaya who was overlooked; the entire film Challengers failed to secure a single Oscar nomination.
Users on X criticized the Academy for not nominating the Luca Guadagnino-directed movie, particularly for ignoring the contributions of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who composed the film’s music.
"Zendaya got robbed real bad for challengers now she'll never do anything close to a comedy movie anytime soon," one user shared.
"No challengers nomination is actually crazy they hate to see a tennis throuple and zendaya looking hot," another wrote.
Another fan expressed their disappointment, stating they "fell to my knees" after realizing that *Dune: Part Two*, another Zendaya-starring film, received five nominations, while *Challengers* got none.
"Zendaya is going to the Oscar's for *Dune* and not *Challengers*... fell to my knees," another posted.
One fan labeled the snub for Zendaya and the film’s composers as "evil."
"No noms for *Challengers* is baffling to me, insanely electric filmmaking with an unbeatable screenplay that drives that movie. Best shot film of the year too. No nods for score is evil. No nods for Zendaya is especially evil."
"How is *Challengers* not nominated in a SINGLE category... oh Luca Guadagnino oh my Zendaya I’m so sorry," one user lamented.
"Also how tf did *Challengers* get completely shutout NO score no Zendaya there’s others but like what the hell NOTHING?!!!! Crazy to me. Somehow *Wicked* gets in best score tho…… absolutely stupid Trent and Atticus deserve better that score was phenomenal," another wrote.
"I cannot believe Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross weren’t nominated for best original score (not even mentioning that *Challengers* wasn’t nominated at all)," another fan posted.
Although the film is out of the Oscar race, it has received multiple awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Original Score for Reznor and Ross.
Zendaya was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, though she did not win.
