Diddy threatens former Vibe editor-in-chief with death threats, docuseries reveals
Former Vibe editor-in-chief Danyel Smith has alleged that Sean "Diddy" Combs threatened her life during a dispute over magazine cover photos in 1997.
Speaking in the upcoming Investigation Discovery docuseries The Fall of Diddy, Smith claimed that Combs demanded to review the cover images for an issue featuring him, a request that violated the publication's policy. When she refused, Smith said Combs told her he would see her "dead in a trunk."
Smith recounted that after her refusal, Combs refused to apologize until her lawyer intervened, threatening legal action. She eventually received a faxed apology but later learned that Combs had allegedly sent individuals to intimidate her at the Vibe offices. The story, titled The Good, the Bad, and the Puffy, was ultimately published in late 1997.
Combs has denied the allegations and is currently facing federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and other crimes following his September arrest. Prosecutors claim he used blackmail and violence to silence victims, including allegations of forcing women into non-consensual group sexual acts.
Combs, who remains in federal custody after multiple denied bail attempts, has pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled for May 5.
The Fall of Diddy, which premieres January 27 and 28 on Investigation Discovery and Max, examines decades of allegations against Combs. The docuseries features interviews and archival footage to provide a comprehensive look at the claims of violence and abuse throughout his career.
The network states that the series explores how Combs allegedly used his power and influence to conceal patterns of misconduct, leaving significant harm in his wake.
The Fall of Diddy will premiere across two nights, January 27 and 28, on Investigation Discovery and Max.
