James Gunn shares first photo of Milly Alcock in 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' as filming begins
As The DC Universe welcomes the last daughter of Krypton, filming begins for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Star Milly Alcock, known for her breakout role in HBO’s House of the Dragon, and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn posted an image to commemorate the production's kickoff at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
“Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl,” Gunn shared on social media, praising the team behind the film, including director Craig Gillespie, screenwriter Ana Nogueira, and comic creators Tom King and Bilquis Evely, whose work inspired the movie.
Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El.

Joining Alcock as Kara Zor-El are Matthias Schoenaerts as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, a girl seeking justice for her father’s murder, and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s Kryptonian parents. Jason Momoa will also make a special appearance as the alien mercenary Lobo, alongside fan-favorite Krypto the Superdog.
This new take on Supergirl promises a grittier portrayal of the character. “She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing,” Gunn explained. Kara, having witnessed Krypton’s destruction, is said to have a much darker backstory in this adaptation.
Scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, the film is part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s vision for the evolving DC Universe. Rumors suggest Alcock’s Supergirl may debut earlier, possibly alongside Superman in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, slated for July.
