A fast-moving wildfire, dubbed the Laguna Fire, has prompted evacuations at California State University, Channel Islands and nearby areas.

The fire ignited Thursday morning near Laguna and Lewis roads in the Camarillo area of Ventura County, intensifying concerns for local residents and authorities.

According to Cal Fire, the blaze has already burned over 50 acres as of 10:35 a.m., with no containment established. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office announced road closures on Potrero Road, while evacuation orders remain in effect. Dry and windy conditions, exacerbated by a red flag warning in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, have fueled the fire's rapid spread.

Aerial footage earlier in the day showed a towering plume of smoke over the area, although current visuals indicate smoldering. Fire crews are working tirelessly to prevent the flames from reaching densely populated regions.

This wildfire is the second significant blaze in the area this week. On Wednesday, the Hughes Fire devastated more than 10,000 acres, forcing over 31,000 people to evacuate and leaving 23,000 others under warnings.

The recurring wildfires highlight the growing challenges faced by local communities in Southern California. Beyond immediate safety concerns, these disasters disrupt education, displace families, and strain emergency resources.

Residents are urged to stay updated through official channels and adhere to evacuation orders.
