No end in sight to city's water woes

Repaired main line at Dhabeji leaks again

KARACHI:

Water crisis in the city has become uncontrollable as water pipeline that burst at Dhabeji pumping station a few days ago and was repaired, has leaked again.

Water supply has also been reduced at government hydrants. The supply of water from several regional pumping stations in the city has stopped and citizens are forced to get water through tankers at exorbitant rates.

A spokesman for the Water Corporation said that two lines were affected due to the power breakdown as a result most city areas faced short supply of water by 100MGD. That means 300 million gallons of water could not be supplied to the city in three days.

According to the Sources, water supply was started on Wednesday by repairing line number 5, but there was a leak in it. Till late at night, the repair work of line number 5 is going on, while on line 01, the repair work could not be started till now.

According to the sources, there are 24 pumps to supply water to Karachi, currently water is being supplied through 14 pumps only. Water supply is severely affected in various areas of the city.
