The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has temporarily reversed its decision to extend the duration of dental courses from four to five years.
The decision, initially implemented last year, was rescinded during the council's 12th meeting under pressure from the Dental Surgeons Association, according to sources in the Ministry of Health.
The PMDC has also made changes regarding faculty regulations in private medical colleges. The council approved an extension of the faculty age limit from 70 to 75 years, allowing seasoned professionals to continue teaching for a longer period.
The adjustment to the dental course duration and faculty age limit came as part of broader deliberations in the council's recent meeting.
Meanwhile, PMDC President Dr Rizwan Taj, who also serves as the dean of PIMS Hospital, has received a second extension in his tenure post-retirement.
Sources reveal that Dr Taj was initially granted a one-year extension after retiring but recently secured another year-long extension on January 17.
