Imran's counsel faces ATC misconduct

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued a show cause notice to Mashal Yosufzai, lawyer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, for defending her client in GHQ attack case with a suspended license.

During a hearing of GHQ attack case, the prosecution raised an objection, saying Mashal is a K-P Bar member and her license is suspended. She is defending her client with a suspended license. The prosecution also produced a notice issued by K-P Bar secretary in the court. The prosecution said Mashal Yosufzai deceived the court by telling lie. She could not satisfy the court over her conduct.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah said prima facie, Mashal has committed professional misconduct, asking her, "Why not her case to be forwarded to the bar council for cancellation of her license?"

The court directed her to explain as to why not a criminal proceeding be initiated against her over a fraudulent practice. The court directed her to submit a reply in the next hearing.

Later, the statements of four prosecution witnesses were recorded. So far, nine witnesses' statements have been recoded. The court adjourned the hearing till January 25.

PTI founder Imran Khan has included Salman Akram Raja and Khalid Yosuf Chaudhry in his legal team.

The ATC has indicted PTI founder Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Shaharyar Afridi, Sheikh Rashid, Raja Basharat, Zartaj Gul, Omer Ayub and others. All accused pleaded not guilty. After which, the court started a trial against the accused.
