On January 19, 2025, ahead of President Donald J. Trump’s second inauguration, Spotify hosted a high-profile brunch in Washington, D.C.

According to Bloomberg, the event was aimed at highlighting the influence of podcasts in the political sphere, specifically during this election cycle. The brunch, which garnered attention from The New York Times and Wired, was positioned as part of Spotify’s ongoing global efforts to engage political and media figures from across the spectrum.

Spotify emphasized that such events are “business as usual” for the company, which has frequently hosted gatherings in capitals worldwide to foster discussions among political leaders, media, and industry peers. The company also confirmed it donated $150,000 USD to the inauguration’s Presidential Inaugural Committee. This donation aligns with Spotify’s broader goal of strengthening its presence in Washington, D.C., and advancing its platform’s policy objectives, irrespective of political party.

In comparison, major tech competitors Apple and Amazon each donated $1 million USD to Trump’s inauguration in December 2024. The inauguration’s entertainment lineup included performances from Carrie Underwood, Lee Greenwood, and opera singer Christopher Macchio, with additional performances from artists such as Snoop Dogg and Nelly during pre-inauguration rally events. Spotify’s participation underscores its ongoing relationship with political events and its efforts to remain a key player in both the music and media landscapes.
