'Tourism could generate $2b revenue'
Atif Ikram Sheikh, President, and Zaki Aijaz, Regional Chairman and Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), have stressed that Pakistan can generate billions of dollars annually by developing its tourism and culture sectors. In a press statement released on Wednesday, they pointed out that with the global tourism industry valued at nearly $10 trillion, Pakistan is well-positioned to tap into this lucrative market.
"If Pakistan receives one million tourists annually, it could generate up to $2 billion in revenue," the FPCCI officials stated. They underscored that with coordinated strategic initiatives from both federal and provincial governments, the tourism and culture sectors could play a transformative role in strengthening the national economy.
These remarks were made during a meeting of the FPCCI Punjab Regional Standing Committee on Tourism and Culture, where participants discussed the immense potential of Pakistan's tourism industry. The FPCCI is collaborating with the Tourism Development Corporations of Pakistan and Punjab to advance the growth of these sectors.
Zaki Aijaz highlighted Pakistan's unique assets, saying, "Pakistan is blessed with unparalleled natural beauty, a rich historical heritage, and vibrant cultural diversity. The tourism sector is crucial not only for economic development but also for enhancing Pakistan's global recognition. Our country has been the cradle of ancient civilisations, and the peaceful coexistence of various ethnicities, languages, and religious groups adds to the unique cultural identity of the nation."
The FPCCI leaders emphasised that an influx of tourists would drive growth in multiple sectors, including hospitality, transportation, and other services, creating abundant job opportunities across the country.
