The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore has sought assistance from FIA Cybercrime Karachi to arrest a suspect allegedly involved in uploading edited and misleading images of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz with a Gulf country's president on social media platforms.

According to sources, the suspect, identified as a resident of Karachi's District East, has been accused of sharing doctored images of Maryam on various social media platforms, causing misinformation, Express News reported.

FIA Karachi has requested Cybercrime Lahore to provide a formal written application to proceed with the arrest, citing legal complications that could arise from verbal or informal requests.

The sources further revealed that the suspect's location has been identified, and action will be taken as soon as the written application is received.

The case comes amid ongoing investigations into similar incidents, where misleading edited images were shared online.

Previously, cases were registered against 10 individuals, including two women, for sharing fake images of Maryam and the UAE president. The FIA is expected to take further action upon receiving the formal request.
