Secretly a Republican? Kim Kardashian Faces Scrutiny Over her Alleged Support for Melania Trump

A photo, some backlash, and the internet’s endless speculation.

Reality star and billionaire entrepreneur Kim Kardashian is facing online scrutiny after sharing a photo of Melania Trump on her Instagram story.

The image, taken from Donald Trump’s recent inauguration, shows Melania stepping out of a car in a sleek overcoat and wide-brimmed hat. Kardashian provided no caption or context, but fans on X (formerly Twitter) were quick to interpret the post as an endorsement of the Republican Party.

One user wrote, “Successful billionaire, Kim Kardashian, has posted Melanie Trump on her Instagram story. We know who she voted for.” Another added, “Why are people shocked a billionaire is supporting the right??? That’s literally textbook.”

Speculation about Kardashian’s political leanings has reignited debates about her past connections and actions.

The speculation isn’t without precedent. Kim Kardashian has had a history of interacting with the Trump administration. During Donald Trump’s presidency, she visited the White House to advocate for criminal justice reform.

In one instance, she successfully lobbied for clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, who had been serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offence.

“I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon,” Kardashian wrote on social media at the time. “It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson.” Johnson’s sentence was commuted shortly after.

Kardashian also advocated for the early release of three women jailed for drug-related and white-collar crimes. In February 2020, Trump commuted the sentences of Crystal Munoz, Judith Negron, and Tynice Hall.

Additionally, Kardashian’s friendship with Ivanka Trump has raised eyebrows. “Kim and Ivanka have been friends for years and have hung out on a number of occasions,” a source told Us Weekly. Ivanka even attended Kim’s birthday dinner, which was featured on the Hulu reality show The Kardashians.

Kim once went on record to call Ivanka “no one sweeter,” highlighting their close relationship.

Some internet users pointed to Kardashian’s promotion of Tesla—a company owned by Elon Musk—to bolster claims of her Republican ties. Musk himself has a close relationship with Trump, including past collaborations and public praise. These associations have only fuelled further speculation about Kardashian’s political leanings.

Adding to the controversy, people recalled a past incident involving Kardashian’s 8-year-old son, Saint West. In now-deleted YouTube videos, Saint was heard calling Vice President Kamala Harris “stupid” and “dumb,” sparking criticism at the time. Though the videos were quickly taken down, they remain part of the narrative surrounding Kardashian’s perceived affiliations.

The reactions online were a mix of outrage, curiosity, and unsurprised commentary. Many fans noted that, as a billionaire, Kardashian’s potential Republican support shouldn’t come as a shock.

While Kardashian has never explicitly endorsed a political party, her connections to the Trumps and high-profile advocacy efforts have kept the internet buzzing.

Whether Kim Kardashian’s post was an intentional statement or an innocuous image, it has once again placed her at the centre of a heated public debate. Maybe the fashionista just liked the First Lady's look?

For now, the speculation continues.
