Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, the senior puisne judge of the capital's high court, has noted that it is very difficult to prove one's money trail as former chief justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa had also "failed" in doing it.
Justice Kayani made this remark on Monday while hearing a petition filed by a Dr Tashfeen Khan against a call-up notice issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on alleged money laundering.
During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel claimed that his client had transferred his money abroad through legal channels and that they could prove the money trail of that transaction.
The judge noted that he would accept the petitioner's request if he proved the money trail.
"It is really difficult to prove one's money trail. Even Justice Qazi Faez Isa could not prove his money trail," the judge added, while adjourning the case till January 30.
In 2019, the PTI led government filed a reference against Justice Isa, who was then a senior SC judge, accusing him of misconduct. The reference maintained that Justice Isa had failed to mention his family members' foreign assets in his wealth statement.
A ten-judge full bench of the Supreme Court on June 19, 2020 quashed the presidential reference.
A money trail refers to the sequence of transactions or movement of money, often used to track financial activities and determine the origin, flow, and final destination of funds. It involves documenting how money changes hands or is transferred through various accounts, entities, or individuals.
