Aging founder of SIUT suffering from health issues

Dr Adibul Hassan Rizvi, a renowned philanthropist and founder of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), was shifted from SIUT to a private hospital due to health issues.

Dr Adib Rizvi's condition is improving and SIUT officials expect that he will be shifted to SIUT in the next 24 hours. Born in 1938 in UP, India, Dr Rizvi continues to work tirelessly even at the ripe age of 86. The news of his deteriorating health sparked widespread concern across the country.

He brought urology and kidney treatment within the reach of the underprivileged and laid foundation of kidney transplant in the country.

Dr. Rizvi founded the Urology Unit at the Civil Hospital, Karachi in 1970 to treat kidney patients and started an eight-bed hospital. Later in 1991, SIUT evolved in an autonomous institution and the scope of the institution was expanded to include various departments including cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, oncology, neurology, psychiatry, and pulmonology.

SIUT established the Hanifa Suleman Dawood Oncology Center, which provides treatment for various cancers including bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, adrenal cancer and post-transplant complications.
