Man poses as terrorist for extortion
A team of the Counter-Terrorism Department has arrested a resident of Weaver Colony in Ghulam Muhammadabad on the charges of demanded money from a citizen while posing as a member of a terrorist group.
The suspect, Iftikhar, had thrown a letter into the house of victim, Javed, threatening to kidnap his wife and children if the money was not paid.
The police had registered a case against unknown suspects.
City Ppolice Officer Kamran Adil referred the investigation to CTD District Officer Jamshed Iqbal due to the suspected involvement of a banned organisation.
The CTD team took Iftikhar into custody over suspicion based on CCTV footage. During interrogation, he confessed that financial hardship had driven him to commit the act.
CTD officials handed him over to the Ghulam Muhammadabad police after completing their investigation.
Police sources said the suspect had demanded that then money be left under a tree in a graveyard.
The police stated that Iftikhar had two wives and children from both marriages.
