PESHAWAR:

At least 23 people have been arrested after Peshawar police launched a campaign to curb the open display of weapons on social media.

The campaign targets individuals who share videos featuring firearms on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp groups.

The 23 arrests, made within three days, include three TikTokers who are also police employees. The Capital City Police's ongoing campaign has led to the arrests of seven more suspects for uploading videos on social media showcasing weapon displays.

The arrested suspects had made the videos viral on social media platforms, thus negatively influencing younger generations.

During the operation, the police stations of Shah Qabool, Phandu, Pushtakhara, Dawoodzai, Sarband and Gulbahar have conducted operations based on the identification of suspects by the social media team.
