Karachi hit by power breakdown as transmission line trips
Karachi experienced a major power breakdown on Sunday after an Extra High Tension (EHT) line tripped, disrupting the city's power supply, Express News reported.
Due to a fault in a high-tension line, electricity supply was interrupted to over 400 feeders at 23 grid stations in the city.
A spokesperson for K-Electric confirmed that the issue was related to a tripping in the high-tension line at 11 AM on Sunday, which affected major areas of Karachi.
The breakdown impacted the power supply to several grid stations, including Bilal Town, Airport, Garden, North Karachi, Jacob Line, Jail Road, Orangi, Mehmoodabad, Korangi East, DHA, Old Golimar, and others. Areas such as Korangi South, SITE, and Clifton were also affected.
K-Electric’s spokesperson mentioned that the fault caused power disruptions in some areas, but efforts to restore supply began immediately, and power was gradually restored to most parts of the city.
The issue took around two hours to begin resolving, although some areas experienced prolonged outages.
K-Electric assured that the technical fault was swiftly addressed and that power supply to all affected areas, including Lasbela and Bilal Town, has been fully restored. The electricity supply is now operating as usual across the city.
