One killed, 17 injured in pickup-car collision
One person was killed and at least 17 others - including women and children - were injured when a Suzuki pickup carrying a family collided with a car at Defence Turning on Saturday.
The victims, all relatives, were en route to a wedding ceremony in Korangi when the crash took place. The injured were rushed to the JPMC where one of them, identified as 28-year-old Hamad, succumbed to his injuries.
According to the Defence police, the pickup was travelling from Khudadad Colony to the wedding when it crashed into the car. The car was badly damaged, but its driver fled the scene and remains at large. Police have impounded both vehicles.
Police are working to obtain video footage from nearby CCTV cameras to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The injured have been identified as five-year-old Shayana, 40-year-old Sarfraz, 23-year-old Sheena, 27-year-old Samra, 50-year-old Abdul Salam, 23-year-old Shakeel, 45-year-old Syed Imamuddin, 36-year-old Riaz, eight-year-old Nabila, and others.
