Pakistan extends lead to 202 as spinners tear through West Indies in Multan Test
Noman Ali and Sajid Khan led Pakistan’s spin-dominated charge on the second day of the opening Test against the West Indies in Multan, claiming nine wickets between them to bowl out the visitors for just 137 in reply to Pakistan’s first-innings total of 230.
By the close of play, Pakistan had stretched their 93-run lead to 202, reaching 109-3 in their second innings.
Kamran Ghulam (9*) and Saud Shakeel (2*) were at the crease when bad light ended play early, 25 minutes before the scheduled close.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who took 2-17, dismissed Hurraira (29) and Babar Azam (5) before running out Masood (52), who had earlier hit two sixes and two fours.
Noman Ali was the standout performer with 5-39, claiming his seventh five-wicket haul in Tests. Sajid Khan supported with 4-65, as the West Indies’ first innings was dismissed in just 25.2 overs.
Pakistan’s earlier innings had collapsed, losing their last six wickets for just 43 runs after resuming at 143-4, ending with a total of 230.
Despite the interruptions due to poor visibility, the dry, grassless pitch in Multan produced 20 wickets in just five sessions.
Sajid’s early breakthroughs rocked the West Indies, removing Mikyle Louis (1), Keacy Carty (0), Kraigg Brathwaite (11), and Kavem Hodge (4) in his first three overs.
Noman’s additional four wickets further left the visitors reeling at 66-8. The tail showed some resistance, with Jomel Warrican remaining unbeaten on 31, and Gudakesh Motie adding 19.
On the Pakistan batting side, Saud Shakeel top-scored with 84 off 157 balls, including six boundaries, and Mohammad Rizwan contributed 71.
Their 141-run partnership for the fifth wicket rescued Pakistan from a precarious 46-4 on day one.
However, Shakeel and Rizwan were dismissed in quick succession after the drinks break, triggering a collapse, with Rizwan falling leg-before to Kevin Sinclair.
Sajid Khan added a quickfire 18 runs before being bowled by Warrican, bringing Pakistan's innings to a close.
