The Weeknd donates $1 million to Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts
The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has pledged $1 million to support relief efforts following the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.
His generous contribution will benefit organizations like the LAFD Foundation, GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund, and LA Regional Bank. The donation is made in collaboration with World Food Program USA and the artist’s XO Humanitarian Fund.
In light of the tragedy, The Weeknd canceled his January 25 concert at the Rose Bowl and postponed the release of his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, now scheduled for January 31. “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” the singer shared on social media. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”
This act of compassion is the latest in The Weeknd’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, which have seen him donate approximately $10 million over the past five years. His contributions span a wide range of causes, including COVID-19 relief, Black Lives Matter, aid for Beirut’s 2020 harbor explosion, and nearly $5 million in emergency humanitarian aid for Gaza.
The Weeknd joins other artists in supporting wildfire relief, including Taylor Swift, who recently donated to the California Community Foundation Fund and Direct Relief, and Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD Foundation, which pledged $2.5 million to various causes.
Through his actions, The Weeknd continues to use his platform and resources to inspire and make a meaningful difference.
