Khushi, Junaid tease Gen-Z romance in 'Loveyapa'
The trailer for Bollywood Gen-Z romantic comedy Loveyapa, starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan, has dropped on YouTube.
Steeped in bright colours and light-hearted playfulness, the trailer kicks off with love blossoming between Gaurav (Junaid) and Baani (Khushi). Segueing into Baani's drawing room as they attempt to convince her father to let them get married, the young lovebirds are given an unusual ultimatum: they must swap phones for a day. If their relationship can survive this test, Baani's father will give them his blessing.
What follows is a series of predictable shenanigans as both Gaurav and Baani overcome the hurdles of figuring out each other's passwords and discovering hidden secrets in each other's WhatsApp chats. Hilarious (or so we are told) misunderstandings bubble to the surface, egos are wounded, and exes are uncovered. We see Baani's frustration with Gaurav via the medium of literal smoke coming out of her ears. Gaurav, meanwhile, allows his imagination to run wild as he pictures Baani declaring her love for a line of previous suitors.
As we cut to a shot of the father enjoying a coy smile in solitude, it seems that this overprotective man has engineered his ridiculous ultimatum in the hopes that the relationship will implode without any meddling from him. Can Baani and Gaurav's love survive? We have two minutes and 46 seconds to make a judgment call based on this trailer, but considering Loveyapa is a rom-com, it is safe to hazard a guess. Baani and Gaurav will probably be okay. At any rate, the trailer concludes with the following tongue-in-cheek warning: "Swapping your phone can be injurious to health. Don't try this at home."
Predictable, colourful, and over-the-top with a heavy reliance on trending hip-hop, Loveyapa will most likely appeal to its intended Gen-Z target audience. Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa is set to release across Indian cinemas on February 7. If you are unable to commit to a whole film, the trailer does a sufficient job of cutting through the fluff and telling you everything you need to know.
As per Hindustan Times, Loveyapa is said to be a remake of the 2022 Tamil hit Love Today. One of Bollywood's first 'nepo baby' projects of the year, the film will give viewers a chance to witness the late Sridevi's daughter, Khushi, and Aamir Khan's son, Junaid. Can the two leads live up to their parents' legacies? It will not be long before we find out.
