After a 10-year hiatus from acting, Cameron Diaz is back on the big screen with Back in Action alongside Jamie Foxx. In an interview with Still Watching Netflix, the 52-year-old actress shared insights into her decision to step away from Hollywood.
"I didn’t think I was going to make another movie," Diaz confessed. She spent the last decade focused on her wine company, Avaline, and her family life.
Diaz's break began in 2014 when she chose to prioritize her personal life and build a family with her husband, Benji Madden. "It felt like the right thing for me to reclaim my own life," she explained. Diaz emphasized the importance of focusing on herself and her passions, which included being a mom and living day-to-day outside the public eye.
Despite her contentment with life outside Hollywood, Diaz's return to acting was prompted by a call from longtime friend Jamie Foxx. "How do you say no to Jamie Foxx?" she said. The two have worked together on Annie and Any Given Sunday, and their chemistry was a deciding factor for Diaz to join the action-comedy film. “If there’s anyone I’m going to go back and spend months on end, on set, having a ball, laughing with, it would be Jamie,” she shared.
Her decision wasn’t without challenges, as Diaz admitted adjusting from a quiet family life to the busy set was difficult. However, her supportive husband played a key role in her return, telling her, "It’s time for us to support you and let mommy ascend and do her thing."
Back in Action will premiere on Netflix on January 17, following a delay due to Foxx’s health scare in 2023.
