Djokovic will now face Czech player Lehecka on Sunday, 19th January.
Novak Djokovic showcased his enduring dominance at the Australian Open, securing a decisive 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Czech 26th seed Tomáš Macháč.
The win marks Djokovic's 17th appearance in the tournament's fourth round, underscoring his status as a 10-time champion in Melbourne.
Despite dealing with physical discomfort, including respiratory issues that required medical attention during the second set, the Serbian maestro remained composed. His clinical performance lasted two hours and 22 minutes, with Djokovic dictating play from the baseline and capitalising on Macháč’s unforced errors, which totalled 35.
Djokovic, now 97-9 at the Australian Open, praised his ability to adjust mid-match: "It wasn’t easy at the start, but I managed to find my rhythm and get into the match. Physically, I felt better as the match progressed," he said.
Alcaraz Advances with Eye on History
Earlier in the day, Carlos Alcaraz, the tournament's third seed, overcame Nuno Borges 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2 to progress to the fourth round. The 21-year-old Spaniard aims to become the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.
In a lighter moment, Alcaraz revealed plans to celebrate a potential Australian Open win with a kangaroo tattoo, joining his collection commemorating past Grand Slam victories. "The only thing missing is to lift the trophy here, but that’s the plan if it happens," he said.
