Devajit Saikia, the newly-elected secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), recently addressed the speculation surrounding Indian men's team captain Rohit Sharma’s visit to Pakistan ahead of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
Earlier this month, Indian media reports suggested that Sharma might travel to Pakistan for events related to the tournament, including an all-captains photo shoot and a press conference where skippers will share their expectations for the competition.
However, Saikia confirmed that the BCCI had not received any official proposal for Sharma's visit and that the matter had not been discussed with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
"We haven't received any such proposal. This hasn't been part of our discussions with the ICC," Saikia told an Indian newspaper. "This is a very delicate situation, and every step must be taken after carefully assessing its repercussions. India needs to find a compromise formula to handle the situation, as Pakistan, as hosts, will enjoy certain benefits."
The 2025 Champions Trophy will be held from February 19 to March 9, with matches scheduled across three Pakistani venues—Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi—as well as in Dubai. The tournament will feature 15 matches, with the participating teams divided into two groups:
Hosts Pakistan will play New Zealand in the opening match on February 19 in Karachi. India’s first match will be against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai, followed by the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash on February 23, also in Dubai.
Group A: Pakistan, India, New Zealand, Bangladesh
Group B: Afghanistan, South Africa, England, Australia
