Justin Baldoni alleges Ryan Reynolds and Taylor Swift pressured him to accept Blake Lively's changes
Director and actor Justin Baldoni has filed a $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, alleging undue pressure and creative interference during the production of It Ends With Us. The legal filing comes weeks after Lively accused Baldoni of misconduct on set in a separate lawsuit.
Baldoni, 40, claims that during pre-production, Lively, who stars as Lily Bloom, proposed significant changes to a pivotal rooftop scene. When Baldoni initially resisted, he alleges Reynolds and pop star Taylor Swift, both close to Lively, intervened. According to the complaint, Baldoni felt pressured to accept Lively's version of the scene after a meeting where Reynolds and Swift praised her rewrites. This alleged pressure came as Lively embraced a more hands-on role in the production, earning her first executive producer credit.
Text messages included in the lawsuit reveal Lively referring to Reynolds and Swift as her "Dance Moms level stage moms" and comparing herself to Game of Thrones’ Khaleesi with the two celebrities as her "dragons." Swift's song "my tears ricochet" was prominently featured in the film, and Lively publicly shared that Reynolds had contributed to the script.
The rooftop scene controversy is one of several flashpoints in the larger legal battle between Baldoni and Lively. In December, Lively accused Baldoni of creating a "hostile work environment" during a birth scene, citing unprofessional conduct. Baldoni has denied the allegations, calling them defamatory.
Baldoni is also suing The New York Times for $250 million over an article addressing Lively's claims, alleging misrepresentation of his actions. These lawsuits highlight the growing tension around the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, a production marked by its star-studded cast and intense creative differences.
