Deryck Whibley faces defamation lawsuit over alleged abuse in memoir

Greig Nori and Deryck Whibley are suing each other over sexual abuse allegations in Whibley's memoir Walking Disaster.

Nori is seeking over $6 million in damages, filing a libel lawsuit against Whibley and his book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, for alleged defamation and breach of privacy.

The dispute traces back to October 2024 when Walking Disaster revealed Whibley's claim that Nori engaged in an abusive sexual relationship with him when he was 18. Whibley, in his memoir, recalled a confusing and troubling encounter at a warehouse party, which he described as a forced kiss that left him conflicted. He alleges that the relationship began when he was intoxicated and unsure of his feelings.

In response, Nori categorically denied the allegations, calling the encounter “consensual” and stating that Whibley was the one who initiated it aggressively. Nori also accused Whibley of making false claims, especially about him pressuring Whibley with accusations of homophobia.

Whibley, who felt the public denial was damaging to his reputation, filed a counterclaim seeking $3 million in damages for defamation and the false portrayal of the events. As of now, neither party has filed a formal defense or statements of claim, and the legal process is still in its early stages. The allegations remain untested in court, with both sides preparing for a legal battle.
