Leonardo DiCaprio donates $1 million to Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts
Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged a $1 million donation to support the ongoing fire relief efforts in Los Angeles. The actor, known for his environmental activism, announced the contribution on Instagram Stories, calling the devastating wildfires "a tragedy for our city." DiCaprio’s donation is directed through Rewild's Rapid Response Program and will support a range of critical organizations offering immediate aid and long-term recovery efforts.
"I am committing $1 million in partnership with @rewild’s Rapid Response Program to support both urgent needs and post-fire recovery efforts," DiCaprio wrote, listing the beneficiaries, including the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, and the Pasadena Humane Society. These organizations provide vital resources to firefighters, first responders, and impacted communities.
DiCaprio, who grew up in Southern California, also shared direct links to each of the listed organizations to encourage others to contribute. His donation is part of a larger response to the devastating wildfires, with significant contributions from major corporations. On Wednesday, Google and YouTube announced a combined $15 million donation to Los Angeles-area relief organizations. Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, also donated $4 million, while YouTube promised production support to affected creators and artists. Other industry giants, including Disney, Netflix, and Amazon, have also committed substantial donations to the cause.
In addition to monetary contributions, Meta will provide $2 million in cash and ad credits to support recovery efforts and raise awareness in affected communities. The company’s ad credits will fund public service messaging and support fundraising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram.
