Sindh Government decides to purchase electric vehicles
The Sindh government has decided to auction off useless vehicles within a month and purchase electric vehicles (EVs) as replacement for government employees in Karachi.
An important meeting of the Sindh Cabinet's Sub-Committee on Austerity, chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, took place in Karachi.
Provincial ministers Saeed Ghani, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Ali Hassan Zardari, and various department secretaries attended the meeting.
During the meeting, committee members issued instructions to regulate the allotment of government vehicles through clear guidelines. Secretaries of various departments presented a 10-year record of government vehicles.
Sharjeel Inam Memon, in his address, stated that the auction process should be completed within a month to avoid further waste of resources and to fulfill the need for new vehicles.
He emphasised that the purchase of EVs would benefit the government, save on fuel costs, and make the auction process easier.
He further stated that the government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.
He warned that those misusing government vehicles should return them as per government orders.
Senior Provincial Minister Memon added that work on the auction of useless vehicles is ongoing and that the auction would be conducted transparently.
All concerned officials and departments must adhere to new guidelines to avoid legal actions.
Saeed Ghani stated that timely auctioning of useless vehicles is crucial to reduce unnecessary expenses. He urged departments with surplus vehicles to return them to the government.
Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that efforts are being made swiftly to identify useless vehicles and ensure compliance with government policies.
Their goal is to save public money and ensure that expenses align with actual needs.
