Renée Zellweger opens up about 6-year hiatus from acting: "I was sick of the sound of my own voice"
In an interview with British Vogue alongside Bridget Jones co-star Hugh Grant, two-time oscar winning actress, Renée Zellweger revealed that she took time away from Hollywood and acting for the better part of decade as she was fed up by the sound of her own voice.
The hiatus came during the point in Zellweger's career when she was already the one of the highest paid Oscar-winning actress in the industry.
When Grant inquired about the reason behind her break, Zellweger replied that she was "sick of the sound of [her] own voice". She further explained stating that, When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”
Duribg this period, Zellweger stayed busy by writing music and studying international law. "I built a house, rescued a pair of older doggies, created a partnership that led to a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of time with family and godchildren and driving across the country with the dogs. I got healthy", the actress added.
Zellweger finally made a comeback after six years by reprising her iconic character in 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby which earned her a second Oscar and her first in the best actress category.
Zellweger and Grant are back for the upcoming fourth Bridget Jones movie, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Although it will stream exclusively on Peacock from February 13, Universal Pictures will be releasing the movie in theaters internationally on February 14.
