The Meteorological Department's early warning centre has forecasted strong winds in the city. According to the department, there is a possibility of occasional strong winds on Friday and Saturday, which will increase the intensity of cold weather.

The city is expected to experience cold and dry weather for several days. The minimum temperature is expected to be between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius.

Other areas of the province including Larkana, Tharparkar, and Umerkot are expected to experience extreme cold, with a possibility of fog in the central and northern districts of Sindh, particularly during the night and morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, a new western weather system will enter Pakistan from Balochistan on January 18.

There is no expectation of rain in Karachi under this new system, but once it moves towards the northern regions, the cold winds from behind may affect Karachi.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said that Karachi is expected to experience cold and dry winds (cold wave) during the last week of this month due to the new western system.

This will lead to an increase in cold intensity due to the dry and slightly stronger-than-usual winds.

Earlier, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted that cold and dry weather prevailed across most parts of the country, with hilly areas experiencing very cold conditions.

Moderate to dense fog affected most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours, potentially causing disruptions to visibility and travel.

Light rain and snowfall occurred in isolated areas of northwestern Balochistan due to the presence of a shallow westerly wave.

The lowest temperatures recorded during the period included -12 in Leh, -11 in Gupis, and -10 in Skardu and Astore.
